A Long Road Ahead for Above + Beyond Cancer

Do you know of someone whose faith has been shaken by the diagnosis of cancer? According to the latest statistics, a staggering 589,350 Americans are expected to succumb to cancer in year 2013. That’s approximately 1,600 people per day and nearly 1 out of every 4 deaths in the U.S, with one third of these deaths linked to poor diet and sedentary lifestyle, second to smoking and tobacco use.

On June 21st, Above + Beyond Cancer kicked off its first leg of the Million Dollar Marathon in Ocean Shores, Washington, going coast to coast in raising awareness about the connections between cancer and diet and exercise in preventive medicine.

The route, comprised of 15 states and 500 communities, is inching closer to a city near you. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

The Million Dollar Marathon is presented by Above + Beyond Cancer, a public charity with a mission to elevate the lives of those touched by cancer to create a healthier world. The organization plans to use the event to educate the public about the connections between cancer, and diet and exercise, while raising money for cancer research and for programs that support cancer survivors and their families. The beneficiaries of the Million Dollar Marathon include the American Cancer Society, LIVE STRONG, Above + Beyond Cancer, the Colon Cancer Alliance, and Catholic Health Initiatives.
