Idiomatic Expressions, Eh?

The other day my mom tells me she’s so busy that she’s “losing her marbles”. So, I decided to take charge and set out to find them. And where’s the first logical place one would look? The dryer. When my mom does laundry at our house it’s like tuning into that game show Wheel of Fortune. With each spin cycle you never know what fortune you’ll find; cell phones, silver, gum, George Washington, note pads. So as I’m surveying the circumference of the dryer for lodged objects, my mom walks in and asks "what are you up to?" - - to which I responded, “I’m looking for your lost marbles … what do you think I’m doing?” My mom then proceeds to tell me that it was only a "form of expression” that what she meant was she was "losing her mind"………..eh? Why can’t people just say what they mean and mean what they say! Ugh.
